Oooooh, this book is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read! It was fantastic, and I actually felt lost and sad when I’d finished it as I had got so involved in these characters’ lives and felt like I’d gone through so much with them that I was really reluctant to leave them all at the end and turn the last page.

This is the first Penny Vincenzi book that I have read and I will definitely read more. This book is about the Lytton family and their publishing empire, and in particular the twins Adele and Venetia. The story takes you through several decades, (including through the Second World War), and tells the stories of the things they face as they grow up, their relationships, problems and difficulties and how they overcome them, and how they act in adult life and decide what they really want and what is important to them.

There are also loads of other great characters, through extended family and friends, and each character is really deep and interesting. You honestly do feel as if you are living it all with them.

I really struggled to put this book down - I seemed to lose whole hours of my day and even when I wasn’t reading the book then I was thinking about the characters and what would happen next and how they would deal with it.

It is a huge book, and this is really satisfying as it is a really great read. The accounts of the war was also really interesting and made me want to find out about my own grandparents’ experiences in the war - it really brought it all alive to me, rather than just being cold facts in a history book.

But above all, this is a brilliant involving book and one I would highly recommend, and will read again and again.
