This is the first Chris Manby book I have read, although she has been highly recommended by friends. It didn’t grab me at first and I thought it would be a typical simplified ‘chick lit’, but there was more to it than that.
It intrigued me as the main character, Heidi, was having doubts about her fiance Ed, yet there wasn’t anything wrong with him - he hadn’t cheated on her, hurt her, ignored her, etc. In fact he seemed a totally nice bloke, kind and sensitive and affectionate and he clearly loved her.
I enjoyed followed Heidi as she worked through her feelings, and I felt the situation was more true to life as she really didn’t have anything to complain about and yet was searching to identify why she wasn’t happy.
I also laughed out loud at the parts where she was babysitting. These sections were written with great humour and I completely identified with Heidi not daring to turn the TV up loud or even flush the toilet, just in case the noise woke the baby. I can remember doing exactly those things myself while babysitting when younger.
I really enjoyed this book - it is easy going and lighthearted, and fun.
