This is the story of a family moving to a new area and the young son suspecting that something strange and sinister has happened to the previous owners of their house. He discovers that their son had disappeared, there are strange statues near the house that appear to move position, his own family begin acting strangely, the lighthouse owner living nearby appears to be constantly fearful of something but won’t explain why – all wonderfully chilling and tension-building situations.

I was intrigued to read this book as it is written for a younger audience and I had only read his books aimed at adults. It was a very good read, and his themes of mysterious and possibly supernatural incidents are present as with his adult books. I obviously prefer his adult books as they are fuller novels and can go into far more depth, but this was still very enjoyable to read and I can imagine it being gripping to a younger reader.
